Using Federal Legislative Impact

 

The Federal Legislative Impact service provides information on the impact of a law when it is enacted, identifies amendments to the law since enactment, and highlights current bills which could have an impact upon the law.

 

You can view the impact from various starting points.  Start with the Legislative Impact service, select the Impact link from a list of documents or click on the Impact link when viewing the text of a document.

 

Example: USA Patriot Act of 2001, P.L. 107-56.

 

  1. Legislative Impact service - Starting from the left navigation bar, under the Federal Reports heading, select Legislative Impact.

  1. Searching Federal Legislative Impact - Browse the list of Act names; or, enter the word "patriot" in the Act Name field to retrieve all Acts in whose title the word "patriot" appears.

  1. Selecting from a search result list - From the list of names, select P.L. 107-56.

  1. From a list of documents - You can view the impact when browsing documents.  When browsing the Public Laws, the Impact link appears alongside the PDF and Text links.

  1. From a document - When viewing the full text of a document, the Impact link appears at the top.

  1. Legislative Impact Overview - from the main Legislative Impact screen, select Overview.

To see what Statutes are being amended by the current Congress.  Click on any of the links to view the bills.
